Adobe Elements 11 thoughts

First lesson on Adobe Elements 11

My first impression of Adobe elements 11 was that it looked very difficult with numerous tools and features that could enhance my photograph. The program itself is big and sophisticated, so i am still getting to grips with key tools including; move tool, fill tool, text tool, clone tool, custom shape tool. These basics were shown to the class in a presentation, i thought it was partly rushed and didn't cover all the features i might want to use when editing my photograph. I like Adobe and am looking forward to using the program in the future for my front cover magazine.

My first thought of the tool selection as that it looked very complicated and not self explanatory. over time i feel that i will get used to using Adobe and the features it offers.

TA research and my Chosen Image

Chosen image:

This is my chosen image for my front cover of the magazine, i have chosen this photograph for one of many reasons. I believe the lighting for this photograph was superior compared to the other photographs, because there was no shadows on his face. In my opinion the lighting was favorable on this picture because i was using the "box lights". in addition this photograph meets the brief's criteria by being a medium close-up. The TA feedback on flickr informed me on what Photograph to choose.

Photo-shoot, Thoughts and ideas.

Thoughts and ideas.

I had my first photo-shoot last friday, i enjoyed the experience thoroughly and found that Photo shoots can be very hectic and frantic. I thought that taking certain photo's were very difficult and didn't like how rushed the experience was. In the end i have got the photographs i waned but i feel that the photographs i took were not perfect nor the right shot for a front cover. For future reference i will take a lot more photographs when in the photo-shoot, while also preparing before hand for my model to have specific clothes for a certain look.

Drafts for college Magazine

Drafts

These are my drafts for my magazine front cover and context page, they are ultimately basic but displays my initial outline. As you can see my artist approach provides a basic overview of my front cover and context page. For future reference i will be experimenting more on the mac with softwares such as doby, to create more artist, aesthetic covers that attract the eye. Furthermore it will have more complex shapes and colour schemes that i have previously applied to my drafts.

I was able to post these photographs by the help of my teacher; we was shown how to take specific photographs whether it be portrait or landscape, we was also shown how to handle the camera for a greater photograph. Above all we was taught the "so called" basics of the camera, and how to upload them onto a mac.

Planning photo-shoot plan

Photo shoot plan

Who will you use as a model? the look you want, male or female or both?
My ideal choice for my model would be Callum Courtney; male, with the certain look i am looking for, a modernistic urban look that portrays a student going into further education.

Where will you take the photograph? Location?
The intended photograph i will take will be in the drama studio where i can use the the studio lights to enhance my models "look", with a black backdrop to show contrasts in colours.

What costume do you want your model to wear? Think about colour and representation..
Personally i feel that my model could simply wear a plain white t-shirt with a backpack on to depict the stereotypical modernistic look, i have chosen the colour white for the t-shirt to portray in my magazine that college is pure and represents a new beginning, wiping the slate clean in the education so to speak.

Make-up? Jewellery? Props?
I believe that my model will wear no make-up as this wouldn't illustrate him as a teenager, along with no jewellery which interprets lack of money as a student. For my props i will need stacks of book to show the amount of work enticed with college and a watch on the wrist of Callum to connote that his time is scarce.

This is my intended look for my photograph which entails a Medium shot. With the model wearing very simplistic clothing. The books he is holding portray that he is a student ,with simple to no effort to the reader.

My thoughts from this were developed from my target audience research survey.

Updated ideas

Following my progress within the course my mind has constantly changed about certain fonts to use on my magazine. For my college magazine i am hoping too use a black font on a white background too make the font readable to my audience and plausible. Colours i am predetermined to use will be mainly a construction of dark red's, black's, silver's and greys, but over the course of time my decisions will change accordingly to my experience of magazine's.

Potential fonts

Potential fonts for my magazine;

Fonts i like

  • Luke - courier
  • Luke - Times
  • Luke - Verdana
  • Luke - arial
Fonts i dislike

  • Luke - Trebuchet
  • Luke - helvetica
  • Luke - goergia
These are my potential fonts that i will include in my magazine depending if i like them or dislike them.

Initial response to brief

My initial response to the brief was a positive response; sparking my imagination with numerous ideas including, what photographer's do i know? That will help me with my magazine to get the shot im looking for, with the right photo styles and purpose. It also got me worried about the certain masthead i will be choosing. The colours to use to invoke the right purpose and atmosphere of the magazine and its main intention. In conjunction with the brief i speculated about certain fonts to use in the magazine that will attract the right attention for my intended purpose. Overall i was very happy with the brief and i believe i could work constructively to produce my potential magazine.

The AS Brief

Print
Preliminary exercise : using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally candidates must produce a DTP mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of the program.
Main task: the front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine (if done as a group task, each member of the group to produce an individual edition of the magazine, following the same house style).
All images and text used must be original, produced by the candidate (s), minimum of FOUR images per candidate.
